About Us

Just Food and Water

Is an initiative organized by Marita Bujold, artist and activist, to invite everyone to imagine and create together a new award-worthy food economy that:

  • Serves as an anchor for every community-a public good that nurtures the health and well-being of every member of all communities

  • Connects urban and rural landscapes to a common purpose-neighbors caring for the home we share

  • From source to table is organized to provide a legacy capable of serving this and future generations

Who We Are

We have a publicly-funded food and water economy – just not the one we need to be climate-ready, and food and water secure. The climate crisis has changed the rules of the game. We have an opportunity to set a new course together-aligning our needs with our public investments to create a locally adapted food economy designed for living sustainably. The Headwaters Community Food & Water Bill (HF1948) takes our circumstances seriously-creating the economy we need to meet the demands of food, water and climate and the tools to shape it.

Marita Bujold designed the economic resiliency program created by the bill and worked in partnership with members of the Environmental Justice Coordinating Council (EJCC) to secure legislative leadership.

HF1948 was introduced by Representative Samantha Sencer-Mura (63A). Co-authors Representative Andy Smith (25B), Representative Kaohly Her (64A), Representative Fue Lee (59A), and Representative Kim Hicks (25A).
